Sentiment in the Italian business sector deteriorated in October, after improving in the previous month, latest figures released by statistical office Istat showed Monday.
The headline business confidence index, which is the summary of the confidence climates of manufacturing, construction, market services and retail trade, dropped to 79.3 in October from 82.8 in September. In August, the reading was 81.3.
The lower index reading, compared to August, reflected deterioration in confidence in market services and the retail sector.
Among the market services sub-sectors, sentiment weakened in transportation and storage; tourism services; information and communication; and business services.
In the retail sector, both large-scale distributors; and small and medium scale distributors showed lower levels of confidence in October compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, Italian manufacturers and construction firms tuned slightly more upbeat about their business conditions in October, which mainly reflected more positive assessment of order books.
