Czech Republic’s external trade surplus for December grew from the same month last year, but was below economists’ expectations, data released by the Czech Statistical Office showed on Thursday.
The trade surplus rose to CZK 9.618 billion from CZK 5.439 billion a year ago. Economists were looking for a figure of CZK 10.9 billion. In November, the trade surplus was CZK 36.425 billion.
Exports grew 18.3 percent year-on-year and imports increased 16.8 percent. Compared to November, exports rose a seasonally adjusted 4.2 percent and imports climbed 6 percent.
For the whole year 2013, the country recorded a trade surplus of CZK 350.8 billion versus a surplus of CZK 305.71 billion in 2012. Exports rose 2.8 percent and imports grew 1.4 percent.
