Belgium Inflation Lowest Since December 2009

Belgium’s consumer price inflation eased in April to its lowest level in more than four years, data from Statistics Belgium showed Tuesday.

The consumer price index increased 0.62 percent year-on-year in April, after a 0.89 percent rise in March. It is the lowest level since December 2009, when inflation was 0.26 percent.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index dropped 0.31 percent in April.

The decrease in inflation in April was mainly due to the reduction of VAT on electricity, which was reduced to 6 percent from 21 percent, the agency said.
