Retail sales in Japan gained .2 percent on year in August, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Tuesday – coming in at 11.452 trillion yen.
That beat forecasts for a gain of 0.1 percent following the upwardly revised increase of 0.6 percent in the previous month (originally 0.5 percent).
Sales from large retailers advanced 1.6 percent on year versus forecasts for a flat reading following the 0.6 percent decline a month earlier.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales climbed 1.9 percent – beating forecasts for 0.5 percent after falling 0.5 percent in July.
